"Culture of Japan" - ONI!
An oni mask represents a traditional Japanese demon or ogre known for its fearsome appearance, including sharp claws, wild hair, and horns. In Japanese folklore, oni are often malevolent but can also act as protectors.
These masks are commonly used in festivals and rituals, such as Setsubun, where people throw roasted soybeans to drive away evil spirits symbolized by the oni.
Oni masks are integral to Japan’s cultural heritage, appearing in myths, legends, and various cultural practices, embodying both the terrifying and protective aspects of these mythical creatures.
